July 23, 2021

Dining Room Manager at The Manor at York Town, Amy Ryan, enjoys developing meaningful connections with residents and team members. Working in retirement community kitchens for several years, Amy is plenty familiar with how to provide an outstanding dining experience.

“Prior to working at The Manor, I was one of the lead chefs in a local retirement community kitchen. From there, I became Dining Room Manager,” Amy recalls. Looking for additional opportunities, Amy’s friend introduced her to The Manor at York Town. “My friend called me and told me he thought The Manor would be a great fit for me. I began working here as Dining Room Manager right before Thanksgiving of 2019,” she says.

Amy’s first impression of the community was nothing less than astounding. “When I first saw the community what stood out to me was its true elegance. It’s a beautiful building and location. I also really enjoyed the size because it allows you to develop true connections with residents and team members,” Amy reflects.

As Dining Room Manager, Amy serves as a liaison between the kitchen and dining room to ensure a five-star dining experience for residents at The Manor. “I’m the connection between the residents in the dining room and the chefs and servers in the kitchen, and I ensure that everything in the dining room is running smoothly” she explains. “I’m the first one to receive compliments from residents about our food, and it’s nice to pass that information on to the chefs,” she adds.

The Manor’s outstanding culinary team makes Amy’s job much simpler as she says their variety of high-quality recipes consistently impress residents in the dining room.

With five-star meals and outstanding service, the dining room’s luxurious atmosphere creates a wonderful setting for socialization where residents make meaningful memories together. “The residents truly enjoy the social aspect they get in the dining room. They come dine to be with other people and eat delicious food. This past year, especially, taught us that we need that human connection,” Amy affirms.

As residents socialize over delicious food with good friends, Amy says that what she enjoys most about working at The Manor are the relationships she develops each day. “The people at The Manor are just wonderful, both residents and team members,” Amy reflects. “My mom was a nurse in a senior living community and she used to take me into work with her. We would go on walks with some of the residents and I just loved listening to their stories and getting to know them. That’s what I get to do with residents at The Manor, and it brings back those cherished memories” she adds.

Making meaningful connections and reminiscing, Amy says that the community at The Manor is very much like family. “The relationships I’ve formed here are amazing. The team members and residents are like family. I wake up every day and look forward to working here. It’s just a great place to be.”
