Meet the Team! The Manor at York Town’s Executive Director Shares Her Journey to a Rewarding Career

March 29, 2021

Executive Director of The Manor at York Town, Wendy Petro, has been making a difference in the lives of residents since the community first opened in 2001. As she’s enjoyed her journey to becoming Executive Director throughout the years, her ability to bring happiness and joy to both residents and staff makes her career all the more rewarding.

Prior to coming to The Manor, Wendy worked as a proposal manager for a company that developed emergency response computer technology. While working there, Wendy began to grow her family and had her first son. “After taking maternity leave, I was debating whether I wanted to go back to work at all. Then, I quickly realized I was definitely a working woman and wanted to get back into my career,” she recalls.

The perfect opportunity…Finding The Manor at York Town

When Wendy saw an open position at The Manor, she knew this would be an impactful way to return to work. “What really interested me about this job was the opportunity to help older adults,” Wendy explains. Wendy began working part-time as a project coordinator at The Manor in 2000. In her role, she helped new residents customize their apartments to make them feel right at home. “For many of our residents who move to The Manor, they’ve lived in their previous homes for as long as 40 years. I really enjoyed helping residents see how they could downsize and make their apartment at The Manor home,” Wendy reflects.

Continuing her career with The Manor, Wendy later became the community’s business office manager. A few years later, Wendy was promoted to Executive Director in 2006. As Executive Director, Wendy wears many hats. “I know this community inside and out. From maintenance to housekeeping to overall operations, I’ve delved into pretty much every role at one time or another. Except for cooking,” Wendy laughs.

Caring for Residents like Family with an Outstanding Team of Staff

Working closely with The Manor’s various departments, Wendy says her outstanding team of staff make her job of ensuring residents’ satisfaction much easier. “The staff at The Manor really make our community stand out from any other. Their commitment to ensuring residents’ happiness is outstanding,” Wendy affirms.

Within The Manor’s close-knit community, staff and residents become family. “At The Manor, residents are our family. I’ve known some of our residents for 20 years. They’ve seen my sons grow up and we share those meaningful memories together,” Wendy reflects. It’s this special connection with residents that truly makes Wendy’s job rewarding.

Why do residents love living at The Manor?

Ensuring that residents have every opportunity to experience a fulfilling retirement, The Manor’s residents enjoy the lifestyle they desire. Whether they’re attending an outdoor concert in their beautiful courtyard, or learning a new language in French class, in this beautiful community, residents have fun spending time with friends and doing what they love. “We really get to know our residents and learn all about them. Because our community is so close-knit, we are able to create lifestyles for residents based on their unique interests and hobbies,” Wendy explains.

Community Life Manager, Robyn, knows all about residents’ interests as she creates the community’s monthly activities calendar. Events like hallway happy hour, cardio exercise classes, billiards with neighbors, movie night and more, give residents innumerable opportunities to partake in the activities they choose.

In addition to an outstanding array of activities with The Manor’s Community Life programs, residents enjoy the safety and security of their community. Amidst COVID-19, The Manor’s proactive leadership has been able to continue their community life programming in new and creative ways.

As The Manor’s residents have been vaccinated, the community continues to follow CDC and DOH guidelines so that the people of this community feel safe in doing what they love. Residents especially enjoy The Manor’s five star dining as they look forward to restaurant-quality cuisine with innovative menus and fresh ingredients each day. “Our residents enjoy everything they’re used to. Whether they’re dining in, or getting their food delivered to their apartments, giving them that quality service has been very important to us throughout this pandemic,” Wendy explains.

As The Manor ensures outstanding service, residents feel comfort in knowing that within their community, there are friends and staff nearby who truly care for them.
